Mountmellick Embroidery: Inspired by Nature
Mountmellick Embroidery is highly textured floral whitework embroidery that was first developed around 1825. While it is sometimes referred to as Montmellick, Mt Mellick, Mountmellic, or even Montmellic, Mountmellick is the correct spelling as it is taken from the name of the town Mountmellick in County Laois (pronounced leash) in Ireland. It employs highly textured stitching to depict the plants and flowers that grew around the town. It uses white thread on white fabric, and has a characteristic knitted fringe that edges the work.
This fully revised and expanded, full color, step-by-step guide with over 600 clear diagrams and photos, will lead you from beginner to advanced Mountmellick stitcher.
