From thread to tape: crocheting in the Third Millennium
Well, I don’t know what you think about it, but crocheting has always got an amazing hold on me! The fact that with such a tiny and simple tool – almost ordinary in its concept – you can create virtually any cloth and a surprisingly wide range of things to make our homes nicer, everything quite quickly and, after all, with a few basic stitches, has always looked like a sort of “mysterious spell” to me
Then, our grandmothers used to have at their own disposal just some threads “of chance”: maybe a little cotton floss salvaged here and there, in many different colors (I’m still “enshrining” a couple of blankets crocheted with love by my dad’s mom, made up exactly of a series of small, multicolored blocks, put together with what was left from some different balls of floss: two wonders!); or maybe some wool, even some very precious (at that time!) angora wool, as in the instance of my other grandma – my mother’s mom – who used to spin it after combing the only white, angora rabbit she had among her many farm animals!
But today we can select what we like from a whole universe of crochet threads: thick or light cotton, wool, mixed fibers and various twisted flosses... And now, even a fantastic tape, expressly designed to crochet useful, little or large (according to what we’re going to do with them) bags and purses!
It’s the jersey 100% cotton jersey tape from DMC that you can find
here.
Just use a large crochet (from 10) and pick up the trendy color you like – black, dark blue, denim blue, ecru and grey – for they match virtually any shade of your clothes and/or accessory. The tape is a bias one and 25 mm wide: two characteristics making it really “universal”, i.e. ideal for any craft application, such as those nice baskets to put all your toiletry in, on the shelves of your bathrooms (can you figure them out? They’ll be amazing, with all those colorful bottles of bath foams and shower gels inside!), or to create tidy trays to place on your tables and bedside tables
Anyway, as said before, this magical tape has been conceived mainly to crochet bags and I guess you’ll be able to indulge yourself, for – either you love clutch bags, traditional bags or huge totes, suitable to carry virtually everything you’ve got home – this jersey tape guarantees you sturdiness and handiness, since it’s machine washable and its bias structure makes it virtually unshrinkable.
In the instance of smaller bags, you’ll love to play with applications made of buttons, satin flowers, sequins, or even rhinestones, if you’re crocheting a clutch for an evening look
While for larger bags and totes, actually designed to “bear” the weight of those thousands of everyday things, we just can’t do without, enjoy yourself matching your crocheted tape with our quilting fabrics,
here, that aren’t strictly reserved to patchwork
Simply sew them inside your crocheted bag and you’ll have the perfect “lining”!
Hear from me soon and... Happy “tape crocheting”!!!
