The natural charm of raffia

The natural charm of raffia

More and more choice, more and more "green".

DMC's Eco Vita has a new member: 100% raffia from wood fiber.

The "100%” detail is crucial, because it is what makes this raffia truly eco-friendly, environmentally safe, and completely recyclable.

In fact, both this raffia and the viscose raffia are derived from plant cellulose, but the amounts of chemicals used to create the viscose is significantly higher than what is used in the case of natural wood fiber, and that is why the new Eco Vita raffia is 100% green and organic, while the viscose raffia is classified as a semi-synthetic fiber.

Compared to semi-synthetic (and, even more so synthetic, generally made of polypropylene), the new 100% natural raffia is stronger, does not unravel, and is silkier to the touch, making it much easier and smoother to work with needles and crochet hooks.

A material that has already created some crazy trends (does Prada's signature raffia bag ring a bell?) and in this all-natural version will spawn many more, including for the home, because several young designers are choosing it - along with materials such as, wicker and jute - to create new, fresher and more natural decorative atmospheres in a return to a simpler lifestyle inspired by nature and respect for the planet.

So, let's use them not only for fashion accessories for us, but also to make decorations for our tables, vases for flowers, baskets, pillows, rugs and lamps and ceiling for our homes.
