Mandala

Back in 2022 The Royal School of Needlework (whose skillful embroiderers stitched, among others, the capes of the Royal Family for the coronation of King Charles III) and the historical wool thread manufacturer Appletons came together to launch a competition using the theme of "Celebration". This mandala, designed by Anil Farzaneh, is the winner of the competition. Originally from Iran, Anil has settled and works in the Netherlands, and she created a beautiful mandala for her winning entry. In Farzaneh’s own words: “It all started when I began sewing clothes for my dolls as a child and then I continued with different media including stained glass. Later on I started focussing on needlework and embroidery and this is one of my more traditional creations. Thank you so much for honoring me!”.
When stitched, the design measures 35cm diameter and makes a great cushion, wall-hanging, chair seat or top for a footstool or a footrest.
The kit includes Appletons Crewel Wools, printed linen twill, artisanally woven in Great Britain, a needle and instruction videos via a QR code, to be easily scanned with your mobile and access to the detailed stitching instructions, with all the Crewel stitches needed for the project.
