Haft RichelieuIt is possible to realize the RICHELIEU embroidery on any kind of fabric, however it looks the best on linen. However it is necessary to adapt the threads according to the fabrics thickness. It is possible to embroider with the cotton embroidery thread, the silk embroidery floss and the embroidery floss. It is absolutely necessary to shrink the material to embroider. It is possible to copy the chosen pattern onto the fabric with a tracing paper. The pattern can also be ironed. The nr. 24 sheet contains all the patterns for ironing.
Realizing the embroidery
Just embroider the outlines of the pattern with double tacking or with a small chain. Such an undercoat strengthens the embroidery and it makes the pattern convex and distinct. First, make little spans with some fastened stitches knitted with the chosen amount of threads on the front of the fabric.
While trimming little spans, pay attention not to sink the needle into the material which will be cut out. Next, knit the motive of the embroidery along the edge so that the stitch will be tied on the side on which we will be cutting the unnecessary fabric
A circle
Sew the outline of the circle with tacked stitch once or twice, paying attention to make a regular circle. Next, stretch the fabric to the outlines of the hole with a thick knitting wire, controlling that the sewing is not cracked. Just trim the edges of the hole with a whip stitch.
Toledo
Sew the outline of the pattern, in which we will do toledo. Next it is necessary to pull the specified number of threads out from the motif and warp (two- three threads), to cut them at the outline of the pattern and to cut them on the left side of the fabrics. Next we have to wrap the net up with a thread (always identical) in the place where threads are crossed. After having finished it, we have to sew an outline of the pattern towards the inside.
Other embellishments applied in richelieu embroidery have been presented in the form of drawings – schemes of making them in every edition of HAFT RICHELIEU.
Finishing
Wash and slightly starch the embroidered model. Next iron the wet fabric on the back side on a soft ground. The main problem is to cut out the unecessary material. We cut the edge of the napkin out on the right-hand side, whereas unnecessary material under little spans on the left side. One should cut out very cautiously in order not to cut little spans and not to damage threads in knitted places, since it will be hard to fix embroidery.
After having cut out the unecessary fabric it is necessary to iron the finished embroidery on the back side once more again.
Keep the ironed Richelieu embroidery napkins rolled up. Do not fold them up!
